A base camp for adventure, in the summer Talkeetna swells with mountain climbers and visitors. The town is the staging area for expeditions attempting to climb Mt. Denali, and an ideal stopover between Anchorage and Denali National Park.

The Park Connection offers morning and afternoon service connecting Talkeetna with Denali Park and Anchorage. On select trips you can travel between Talkeetna and Seward or Whittier in the same day, a unique benefit compared to other transportation options.

Your Stay in Talkeetna

Getting to or from Talkeetna is just the first step. If you need some advice on where to stay or what to do, we are happy to help!

You have three good options: Car, train, or the Park Connection, of course. We always recommend an Alaska vacation itinerary with both motorcoach and rail travel if possible. This lets you enjoy the train ride, but also allows you to save time, money, and see the scenery along the highways of Alaska. One idea: Travel Anchorage to Talkeetna and Denali on the Park Connection, and return Denali to Anchorage on the train.

A one night stay before or after your trip to Denali allows you to explore the town and see the majesty of the Alaska Range from the air. The Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge is the largest hotel in the area, but there are a few rustic lodges and bed and breakfasts as well. The Park Connection picks up and drops off at the lodge.

The Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge offers a shuttle service. If you are staying elsewhere, be sure to ask about your options. If you’re staying in town, walking is a good option as Talkeetna is quite small.
