While most travelers will only pass through Whittier connecting to an Alaska cruise, it’s a charming spot to visit on a day trip. Need help planning? Send us a note!

On cruise ship days the Park Connection is a nice choice for travel between Anchorage and Whittier. The Alaska Railroad also operates a daily summer train to Whittier.

If you’d like to drive, plan about 90 minutes to travel from Anchorage. Be sure to get the latest Whittier tunnel information.

Last but not least, the Alaska ferry offers service to Whittier.

There are a limited number of lodging options in Whittier, so most visitors only go for the day and overnight in Anchorage or Girdwood. Check out the Whittier Chamber of Commerce if you decide on an overnight.

Whittier is a very small community. Public parking is available for private vehicles. Services are limited, but you can also explore Whittier by foot. Cool and wet weather are the norm, so dress and pack accordingly.
